Throughout the course of this analysis and through the bringing together of different periods, methods and texts (Shakespeare-Charcot-Dürer), the reversed (and ironic) sun allegory (Apollo) in King Lear, followed by Jupiter’s lightning, has led us not towards a blind and blinded centre of vision, but—contrary to all expectation—towards a real frenzy for seeing; an unrepresentable representation, an unseeable which has the shape or the very singular emblem of a spiral. Perhaps we should therefore try to see and read the whole tragedy of Lear—and also (to summarize) the journey thus far made—through the gaze of Lear, i.e. through a very special way of seeing, in which the eye-spiral of the Tragedy would suddenly appear; identical to the Eye-Spiral of Joyce by Brancusi: it would then be the eye-spiral of Lear (fig. 27).
